Lower motor neuron (flaccid weakness, atrophy, history of fasciculations, areflexia)

2.  Indicate the level of the neurologic lesion and the specific structure(s) involved by the pathologic process.

Anterior horn cells of the C5-T1 spinal cord on the right (doubt ventral root lesions)

3.  In general terms, what type of pathologic process do you think is involved in this case?

Viral infection of the anterior horn cells of the right C5-T1 spinal cord segments (poliomyelitis) due to poliovirus. 

The child had not received polio vaccination.  At the present time, West Nile virus (WNV) infection is one of the most common causes of
poliomyelitis.

4.  What diagnostic procedure(s) would you undertake at this point?
